چکیده

Abdominal aortic aneurysms have an incidence rate of 5–9% in men over 60 years of age. Their repair via the endovascular route is now becoming accepted as the treatment of choice. Two of the key factors determining a patient’s eligibility for an endovascular repair include aneurysm neck anatomy and tortuosity of the iliac vessels. Patients who have such challenging morphology are at an increased risk of having complications such as endoleaks, graft migration and limb occlusion. Currently there is no ideal graft available for the treatment of aneurysms that are morphologically challenging. Indeed, the delivery and deployment of traditional grafts that are available for endovascular repair can be extremely challenging in these patients. This article evaluates a flexible modular self-expanding graft (AorfixTM) constructed using a circular Nitinol frame, offering considerable compliance. Its key characteristics, cost and clinical outcome data are presented.

An Aortoenteric Fistula Arising after Endovascular Management of a Mycotic Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Complicated with a Psoas Abscess

Mycotic aortic aneurysms account for 1–3% of all aortic aneurysms. The management of this disease is controversial. Since open surgical repair is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates, endovascular aneurysm repair is an alternative treatment method with promising early and midterm outcomes, although its long-term durability is unknown.Secondary aortoenteric fistulas may occur iatro...

Endovascular Treatment of Infrarenal Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm with Short and Angulated Neck in High-Risk Patient

Endovascular treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) is an established alternative to open repair. However lifelong surveillance is still required to monitor endograft function and signal the need for secondary interventions (Hobo and Buth 2006). Aortic morphology, especially related to the proximal neck, often complicates the procedure or increases the risk for late device-related compli...

Straight aortic endograft in abdominal aortic disease

BACKGROUND We describe our 8-year experience with the use of endovascular techniques (ET) for the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) through a straight endograft. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed data of all patients who were treated for AAA using ET in two centres from 1998 to 2012 and who received a single straight endograft (group A) or a double straight tube (group B). Outco...

Repair of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms with bifurcated endografts: a single-center study

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to describe our early experience in the treatment of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms with bifurcated endografts. We report on our initial twelve-month experience using this approach. METHODS Clinical data on patients with ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms treated at a single tertiary center in Brazil were prospectively recorded. The eligibility for en...

CASE REPORT Endovascular treatment of a triple paraanastomotic aneurysm after aortobiiliac reconstruction Tratamento endovascular de triplo aneurisma para-anastomótico após derivação aorto-biilíaca

We report a case of a 72-year-old patient considered unfit for open surgery, presenting with paraanastomotic aneurysms of all three anastomoses, 13 years after an open aortobiiliac reconstruction for abdominal aortic aneurysm. This patient was successfully treated with an endovascular approach using a left aortouniiliac endograft and a right iliac tubular endograft, followed by crossover femoro...
